One of the enjoyable sights of this time of year is the beautiful blossom on the trees. It seems to appear so quickly as if from nowhere on bare branches and it brightens up many a park, garden and roadside. Sadly it is often also a very short-lived sight. It only takes a sharp spring storm for the blossom to be gone from the trees, trampled underfoot and turned into a slimy mess. Soon it is as though it was never there at all.
The bible reminds us that our lives can seem just as short-lived, here today and gone tomorrow. “As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.” (Psalm 103 v 15-16). That is what it means to be mortal & it is true of each of us which is very humbling. But, there is hope. The Psalm continues in v17: “From everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him.”
There is eternal life in the love of God found in Jesus Christ for those who believe him to be the eternal Son of God and trust in his death on the cross for our sin. Our certain hope as his people is that we will have resurrection bodies like Jesus’ when he was raised from the dead. “The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable…” (1 Corinthians 15 v 42).
For people who live by faith in Jesus Christ alone, even though like the blossom we will seem to be so quickly gone from this world, the Lord’s love is with us and we live and will be raised clothed with immortality. What great hope there is in the love of God through Jesus Christ by his death and resurrection! May you know such hope in your life. You can by seeking and knowing Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
